The Chalicothere were large (approx. size of a modern horse), herbivorous, quadrupedal mammals (odd-toed ungulates) also known as "Chalikos" placed by Julian May in the Pliocene, but evolved long before in the Oligocene. The Tanu used a combination of animal training and their coercive powers and training to make use of them as rough analogs to horse or general pack/riding animals.
